Death is a word

You cannot be frightened of the unknown because you do not know what the unknown is and so there is nothing to be frightened of. Death is a word, and it is the word, the image, that creates fear. So can you look at death without the image of death? As long as the image exists from which springs thought, thought must always create fear.

Amma in Paris

" The world should know that a life dedicated to selfless love and service to humanity is possible."
Amma

Amma travels constantly throughout the world in response to the heartfelt longing of people who seek lasting peace and harmony in their lives. Everywhere she goes, huge crowds gather to hear her speak, to experience her unique devotional singing and, above all, to receive her loving embrace (darshan) or simply to be in her presence. Year after year Amma returns to her children, encouraging them in their efforts to imbibe her message of love and service to others.

“Where there is love there is no effort.
Other people’s happiness is my rest.”
Amma

Truth comes in a flash

Truth or understanding comes in a flash, and that flash has no continuity; it is not within the field of time. Do see this for yourself. Understanding is fresh, instantaneous; it is not the continuity of something that has been. What has been cannot bring you understanding. As long as one is seeking a continuity - wanting permanency in relationship, in love, longing to find peace everlasting, and all the rest of it - one is pursuing something that is within the field of time and therefore does not belong to the timeless.

What a beautiful day!

Today is one of those days! When everything seems to go perfect, when life seems perfect. I woke up this morning early, just to see a bright blue sky, announcing a beautiful sunny day.

I jumped out to go running to the park, and that's a beautiful season to run there since the trees have begun to take their autumn colours, some are completely yellow, others burned brown, while others are still bright green, a real treat for eyes and mind. And also it was the first time I take back runnning since I broke that bone and sort of smashed my back in July. Everything seems to work allright.

Then I went to the market and there also it's a mixt between summer and fall, you can still buy peaches and strawberries, but winter vegetables are already there.

I then took the bicycle for a 45min ride to go for lunch at Montparnasse with a friend, a nice light salad and a wonderful apple pie! It means that another 45min ride to the office was most welcome!

And to end that beautiful sunny day, I'm off for a birthday party, in a very cosy bar, just around the corner, 5 min from home!

Isn't life beautiful?

Buddhist humor

Q: How many wives does Buddhism allow?

A: You may have as many as your tolerance for misery can bear.

3 years!

It's been 3 years today that I keep this blog going on (starting with the story of the humming bird), with more or less regularity, and I still like it. First because it's practically the only thing I write lately, it keeps me in touch with the act of writing.

Second because at some moments, it forces me to look for the bright side of my life. In those moments when I feel blue, or when things don't go the way I would like to, I think "ok, what sort of nice thing can I talk about, what nice item is worth to be brought up?", and most of the time something comes up ans brightens my day!

And thrid because it's a nice way to keep in touch with my friends, living in different parts of this world.
